Approximately 50 members of Liverpool Scooter Club will form a guard of honour along each side of Church Street ahead of the veterans’ parade

Air raid siren to sound on Church Street

Approximately 200 war veterans of all ages and all conflicts will parade from Williamson Square, via Whitechapel to Church Street led by the City of Liverpool Pipe and Drums Band.

Veterans arrive at their destination and the Parade Marshall will position the contingent before the stage area. A single piper of the City of Liverpool Pipe and Drums Band will play a lament.

The contingent will be called to attention for a two minute silence to remember those who lost their lives during the Blitz on Liverpool 70 years ago.

Air raid siren will sound the “all clear” marking the end of the silence. The Master of Ceremonies will call forward the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Hazel Williams, to lay a wreath on behalf of the people of Liverpool. She will be followed by various dignitaries: Members of Parliament, representatives of the Armed Forces, Liverpool and Everton Football Clubs and the Merseyside Fire and Police Services.

The Master of Ceremonies invites the Lord Mayor on to the stage to welcome everyone and officially open the Liverpool Blitz 70 event.

Local historian, Frank Carlyle, will introduce the event with a short history of the Blitz on Liverpool
